A good point. The problem with Lannan has been his performance. He’s got a 4.60 and a 1.52 whip in AAA. How can anyone suggest that Lannan would be a better alternative than Wang for the #5 spot? Christ, i’d rather throw Gorzelanny out there. Thankfully nobody needs a 5th starter in the playoffs.

Now, what this team could REALLY use is another power arm for the September stretch and (hopefully) October playoffs. Imagine if they went out and got Greinke for the short-haul. And, as long as we’re dreaming (since I think it takes a grade A prospect to get Greinke for a 2-month rental, and I don’t think Rizzo works that way), we sign Greinke to a long term deal. That’s Strasburg, Gonzalez, Greinke and Zimmermann for the next 5 years. You let Jackson walk, install Detwiler as 5th starter and you let Wang walk, DFA Lannan and then have Maya, Rosenbaum and Ryan Perry as your AAA starter insurance in 2013. I’d take that.

Honestly, unless Wang really turns it around, bringing up Lannan in Sept is probably a better option anyway. It’s a shame, really. There was a moment in ST this year when I thought the Wang comeback might actually work.

So, Wang hits the “disgraceful list.” What a surprise. I wonder if the Giants are thinking about doing the same thing with Lincecum. THAT was batting practice last night.
